An advertisement of the acrobatic performance, “dancers on wires and lines” from 1809.
Today on Monday the 12th June 1809, there will be the honour in this privileged Theatre, a great Company arrives here of the most famous (...) performers, as dancers on wires and lines and air - jumps, under the direction of Ludwik Porte, a privileged performer, with his extraordinary contortions in various positions, and the presented Egyptian pyramid:
- Miss Schmid will perform on a high-wire.
- The famous Pole will stand on a high-wire, jumping backwards and forwards, in a perfect tempo and will show tricks of balance in the rain of fire.
- (...) Madame Röhr with two loaded pistols will perform a great somersault of death.
- On a high-wire, the Woltiżers will create a pyramid balancing with twelve wheels.
Finally, Ludwik Porte himself will have the honour of showing the Herculean strength non plus ultra! Especially deserving of amazement, on his arms and legs he will hold eighteen people. (...)
